Athletics

Forest View's team nickname was the Falcons. The school was a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), which governs most of the athletic and non-athletic competitions in Illinois.

When the school was closed, the IHSA turned over the accomplishments of the school to John Hersey High School, which is also a District 214 school in Arlington Heights.[2]

The following teams finished in the top four of their respective IHSA sponsored state tournament or meet:[2]

Of interest is the record of the 1981-1982 varsity football team. Although the team won only a few games that year, they had a solid offensive front line composed of center (Mack Bernard), right guard (John Keopke), right tackle (Dick O’Hara), and right end (Tom Kolder), all seniors at the time, who were all also, by sheer coincidence, class valedictorians at commencement the following spring. Each student graduated with a 5.0/5.0 grade point average before attending top engineering colleges. (Bernard attended Cornell University while Keopke, Kolder, and O’Hara attended the University of Illinois).

Forest View High School was in the top division as recognized by the IHSA at the time with 555 students in the graduating class. The coincidence of having four valedictorians on the starting right line from center to end has never been known to occur at any level by chance or design before or since. ([3])

Today

Forest View today serves three primary purposes: 1) it is the central administrative office for Twp. HS District 214. 2) it is the home to the district's Vanguard School; an alternative high school for students not excelling in traditional high school placements.[4] and 3) the district's Newcomer Center is housed here, helping newly arrived immigrants an opportunity to learn the English language to better transition into one of the district's six high schools.[5]

The school also houses the Forest View Alternative School, which draws students from across the district who have not been successful in traditional placement due to behavior related issues.[6]
